In Conversation With Alyssa Wasko, founder of DONNI

What inspired your business, DONNI

It was a creative outlet for me after my dad passed away. It began as a way for me to channel my grief and organically grew from there.

Donni is named after your dad. What is your favourite memory of him?

Too many to choose from. One of my favourites is when I was in high school. I went on a six-week trip with my class, and when we landed, somehow, my dad had made it through security and was the only parent waiting at the gate when all the rest of the parents were at baggage claim!

Donni is rooted in comfort and essentials. Describe your go-to outfit currently as a pregnant mama!

All I can say is thank goodness for our pants! They surprised me during this time. They are not designed with pregnancy in mind but work so so well. Our silky cinch pants and butter wide legs, our ribbed tanks and pop shirts, along with vintage men’sbutton-downs, have been my daily uniform. I haven’t had to buy one maternity item!

How are you feeling emotionally, and how has your support system been with your pregnancy?

I feel so grateful for the community around me. My family, friends and team have all been incredible during this time which has removed the anxiety from the unknown—feeling more excited than anything else!

You feel most beautiful when?

I feel comfortable. That can be anything from what I am wearing to a form of self-care or workout I did that day, a good night of sleep. But when I am comfortable, I feel my best!

Do you think Donni will launch a mini collection?

MAYBE !

How has pregnancy changed your daily routine as a career woman?

It has forced me to have balance and let go more, trust my team and be able to take a step back.

What is one thing you didn’t expect that came with pregnancy?

How generous and supportive other mothers have been on the journey. They are eager, willing, and excited to share anything and everything. It has been so refreshing and beautiful for women to support each other genuinely and authentically.

Lastly, who is your Mother Muse?

My mom and grandma. Different methods at times but same hearts. Both are the best mothers. I hope to be half as great a mama as they are.
