What are your tips on transitioning from a mother of one to two?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help! For me personally I had to let things go that normally would cause stress in my life. I no longer let messy cars and home stress me out. I always remind myself when I look back I’m not going to wish I cleaned more I will just have beautiful memories of making mud pies, flour parties in the kitchen, and endless giggles with the kids as they bounce on the couch with their popsicles. Let things go and enjoy the moment!

How do you find balance being a working mom?

This is always challenging as I’m freelance and could work 24/7 if I had the chance to. I’ve set specific days aside each week to make sure I only work on those days. So those days I’m 100% on for work and then the others is 100% mom mode. The daily transition can be challenging switching my brain back and forth but I’m so thankful I’m able to work from home and thankful for close friends and family who love on my kids while I work!

Who is your mother muse?

Every mom who is out there being a super hero…changing diapers, helping kids with homework, doing laundry, working all day, helping kids apply for college, raising grandkids, you are all amazing and im inspired by you all.

What does Mother’s Day mean to you this time around since becoming pregnant?

Not only is this my first Mother’s Day since becoming pregnant, but it’s also my first Mother’s Day without my mom. She passed away from cancer earlier this year. There is not a minute that goes by that I do not miss her.

Is there anything you learned from your Mother that you are looking forward to taking with you into motherhood?

Her independence, loyalty, perseverance in the face of adversity, and unconditional love. She was my best friend and taught me how to be a real friend. She told me she loved me every time we saw each other and every time before we hung up the phone — which was every day.

During her speech at our wedding, she said words that will always stay with me: “Katie, you are the most remarkable thing that has happened to me in my life. There is absolutely nothing on God’s earth I love more.”

I wish I could also say her cooking – but I’m still working on that.

Who is your Mother Muse?

My mom. Our growing family has forever gained a guardian angel.
As a creative in the industry, what does it mean to you to be a working mama?
It’s all about balance. My career is very important to me. I am so proud of what my team and I are building at The Edit. My mother was career-driven as well and did an excellent job of balancing work and family. I plan to follow in her footsteps.

What are you most excited about when it comes to becoming a mom?

I am so excited to give a little human the best that I can out of this life, the best of wisdom I have to offer, the best of myself I have to show her, the best of encouragement I have to guide her, and the best of total support I have to push her into everything she dreams of being. I can’t wait to watch her grow and learn who she is. And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t insanely excited to dress her as long as she lets me.

What does Mother’s Day mean to you this time around since becoming pregnant?

Its so surreal really. I grew up without my mother in the picture and so I’ve always been fascinated by the mother/daughter relationship because it felt like something I observed from afar. So now becoming a mother, I am just so in awe of the love I already feel for my daughter and beyond excited to journey this life with her.

Who is your Mother Muse?

I am so lucky to be surrounded by a community of incredible moms. They are my muses! The way I watch them raise their littles by the sea has inspired me since before I was pregnant and I am so thankful I get to adventure into this new season of motherhood with them. And Jane Birkin of course.

High-legged styles, anything with ruching detail or adjustable ties on the side, and supportive tops all rank highly. I’m also really drawn, as always, to beautiful prints and design features that will make me feel pretty, all of which Julliet offers in spades!

Has anything changed in your self-care routine since becoming pregnant?

I’m consciously trying to prioritize products with non-toxic ingredients, which has resulted in both a very low maintenance routine and finding new brands like Lesse and Nature of Things that I’ll now use forever.

As a creative in the industry, what does it mean to you to be a working mama?

My career and financial independence is a huge part of my identity, so imparting that drive and celebration of creativity to my child is something I’m really excited about. It’s also an industry that is in a constant state of flux, so I am hopeful I can carve out a way to juggle motherhood and my career in a way that is beneficial for both.

We have to ask, any cravings!?

Chocolate chips. I’ve always had a sweet tooth but it’s now reached a Charlie And The Chocolate Factory Augustus Gloop level. We’ve actually even nicknamed the baby Chip.
